The company is committed to Safe and
Environmentally Sound Recycling and to fullfill the committment company takes precautions to control all activities and to prevent contamination of
soil, air, water, including intertidal area.
The following measures are taken for
minimizing potential contamination and other adverse effects:
- Minimizing oil volumes prior to landing
- Removal of all oils from ships as early as possible
- being prepared for oil decontamination in water / sea
- SOPEP kit is kept at plot to control any spills on plot or on board.
- Spill prevention trays are available at plot to contain any spills which could
happen during winch or crane maintenance.
- All the diesel drums are kept in trays to avoid any spillages
- Oil spill & Emergencydrills are done regularly for worker’s awareness
- Water is used during on board cutting in confined space areas to avoid any major or minor flares generated from recycling confined areas of vessel.
- Water is sprinkled on open areas of yard, twice a day to reduce any dust generation on the yard.
- Hazardous waste is disposed to GEPIL as soon as possible after arrival of waste in bags which are stored in hazardous waste storage area on yard.
- To prevent major seepage of oil and other materials into sea, the yard has laid an impermeable layer below the operating areas covering the entire yard. In addition, oil collecting facilities and effluent collecting pits with adequate design have been constructed to treat the effluents before discharge the treated water into sea or land. Efforts are being taken by the yard to improve the greenery within the facility.
