Our Management

Hazardous Waste Management

Ship recycling constitutes a waste management process, handling starts with the separation of elements from the ship. All hazardous materials as well as wastes generated during the ship recycling process are handled, separated, transported and stored only in safe containers / containments and / or on impermeable floors with effective drainage systems. Whenever hazardous wastes or materials containing such wastes are separated from the ship, contact with unprotected soil or the sea is prevented. Any contaminated material is either lifted (e.g. with a crane) onto impermeable floor or sealed in a way, that the soil or water can´t be contaminated. Hazardous waste management safety measures and handling procedures are based on a Risk Assessment and apply to the different Hazardous Materials.

  • While developing the Ship recycling plan (SRP) IHMs is the foundation for ensuring safe and environment friendly ship recycling, The IHM provided by the ship owner or if it not complies with the current requirements than developed by competent person or team.
  • We are member of GEPIL- TSDF site at Alang. With such an association, all the wastes generated from the recycling activity are being collected, stored and transferred by GEPIL-TSDF site which has been approved by State Pollution Control Board.
  • Sampling is done for IHM in case of any request received from ship owners.
  • Identification, marking and labeling and potential on board locations is done by outsourced agencies.
Management of Asbestos and Asbestos Containing Material (ACM)

Exposure to asbestos is avoided / minimized by following measures :

  • Applying safe technical procedures as specified in this SRFP.
  • Limiting the number of exposed people by organizational precautions.
  • Defining the level of safety precautions in case the release of asbestos containing dust is above the level of exposure of low intensity as given by regulating authorities,.
  • Removal of asbestos containing materials as early and as far as technically possible
  • Marking of the parts which are technically not removable at a certain stage of recycling for later removal.
